SAN JOSE, Calif. — June 19, 2007 — Adobe Systems Incorporated today announced the release of Adobe® Digital Editions 1.0, a new software application built from the ground up for acquiring, managing and reading eBooks, digital newspapers, and other digital publications. Available as a free download for Microsoft® Windows® and Macintosh systems, Adobe Digital Editions software transforms the digital reading experience and offers new creative possibilities for publishers. Adobe Digital Editions is an engaging new way to read and manage eBooks and other digital publications. Digital Editions is built from the ground up as a lightweight, Rich Internet Application (RIA). Digital Editions works online and offline, and supports PDF and XHTML—based content as well as Flash SWF for rich interactivity.
Adobe发布了一款新软件“Digital Editions 1.0”，可以在PC和Mac上轻松“获取、管理和阅读”电子书和电子文档，兼容PDF、XML、Flash等格式。
相比于庞大臃肿的Adobe Reader和Adobe Acrobat，新鲜出炉的Digital Editions 1.0仅仅不到3MB大小，而且完全免费，并全面支持Windows 2000 SP4、XP SP2、Vista和Mac OS X 10.3.9+(PowerPC-Mac)或10.4.8+(Intel-Mac)操作系统。此前的测试版已经被下载了30多万次。
Digital Editions 1.0可以打开、阅读和管理免费的和付费的PDF、XML文件，兼容15多万种商业发行刊物，还可以“通过书签、标记和笔记添加注释内容”。
支持Flash则意味着可以在文档内嵌入丰富的音频和视频内容，将枯燥的文本电子书转换成富媒体体验，而且文本和Flash版面可以自动适应窗口或屏幕大小，并保证带来“无缝流畅的阅读体验”。
对于Adobe InDesign CS3用户来说，只需要点击鼠标，就可以将现有内容转换成Digital Editions兼容格式。
另外，索尼将与Adobe就此展开合作，在其电子书阅读器“Sony Reader”中加入Digital Editions eBook技术，不过尚未披露具体产品规划。至于其他智能手机、PocketPC、iPhone等，Adobe都没有提及。
